Olio adulterado

The Ministry orders the recall of a batch of olive oil unfit for consumption.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has identified irregularities in batch 260289 of San Paolo brand extra virgin olive oil, which is deemed non-compliant and unfit for human consumption.

Analysis of the samples taken confirmed the presence of a mixture of other vegetable oils in the product’s composition, which constitutes fraud. Based on the laboratory results, the inspection ordered the immediate recall of the irregular batch.

Irregularities were also identified with the company responsible for importing and marketing the product. The address and tax code (CNPJ) shown on the labels and tax documents were neither identified nor confirmed.

The company was notified by the Federal Superintendency of Agriculture of São Paulo, but failed to submit a declaration within the required deadline and will be subject to an administrative penalty.

“The marketing of this product constitutes a serious infringement, and businesses that sell these items may be held liable. The Ministry urges consumers to immediately stop using the product and request a replacement, as required by the Consumer Protection Code,” the Ministry informed.

Agência Brasil was unable to trace the company’s contact details.
