The Peggy Guggenheim Collection hosts, in the enchanting sculpture garden of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, a concert by the trio formed by Cristina Renzetti, Gabriele Mirabassi And Roberto Taufic.
The three musicians will present their new album, Watch out for the tubarone! The Italians’ Brazil (Egea Music, 2026), a project created in collaboration with the festival Umbria Jazz, with whom they have shared an intense artistic path and musical research for years.
The initiative embodies one of Umbria Jazz’s fundamental objectives: to conceive of jazz as a meeting place for different cultures, traditions, and musical languages. In the evocative setting of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, this dialogue takes on an even deeper meaning, where music, like the visual arts, becomes a continuous exercise in reinterpretation, contamination, and innovation.
The program offers a musical journey through eras and traditions, from the popular songs of Italian emigration, such as America, America, up to contemporary works such as Ritals (2006) by Gianmaria Testa. There will also be historic translations by Sergio Bardotti of famous pieces by Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, and Vinicius de Moraes.
Alongside these compositions, the trio will perform music by some of the most important Brazilian songwriters, including Adoniran Barbosa, Ary Barroso, Moreira da Silva, and Antônio Carlos Jobim. The song will be Sing, sing, but (1980) by Jobim to conclude this fascinating musical journey.
Voice, guitar, and clarinet blend together in a simple and elegant soundscape, where the rigor of chamber music intertwines with the freedom of jazz improvisation. The result is an intimate and engaging listening experience, highlighting the profound cultural affinity between Italy and Brazil, united by the extraordinary evocative power of music.
