Ninety days before the first round of the 2026 General Elections, scheduled for October 4, the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) has set Monday, July 6, as an important deadline in the electoral calendar.
By this date, the bodies responsible for supervising the regularity of the electoral process must submit to the TSE the source codes of verification programs which will be used to control and monitor electronic voting systems.
The same organizations must also transmit, for approval, the public key corresponding to that which will be used by its representatives during the Digital Signature and Sealing Ceremony of the Electoral Systems, one of the fundamental steps to ensure the security and integrity of the elections.
The source codes must comply with the technical specifications established by the TSE Information Technology Secretariat (STI/TSE), as provided for in Article 15 of the TSE Resolution No. 23.673 of 2021, which regulates the control and audit procedures of the electronic voting system.
The legislation also provides that the STI/TSE may request from the control bodies the licenses for the software tools used to develop the verification programs, if the Court does not already have them. All materials will be retained by the Electoral Justice until the conclusion of the elections.
Polling stations abroad
The electoral calendar also includes, again on July 6, the deadline by which the TSE must examine the requests presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) to authorize the establishment of polling stations abroad, even in locations other than embassies, consulates, or Brazilian government offices.
The objective is to guarantee Brazilian citizens residing or temporarily present abroad the possibility of exercising their right to vote under adequate conditions, in compliance with the rules established by the Electoral Justice.
